Nowadays, the labor market demands that young people should have significant professional experience to complement their training and education. Imagine the possibilities if this experience could be undertaken abroad.

With this in mind, EMC-Intercultural (along with our partners and associates, both local and international) developed our Internship Programme.

What is an Internship?

This is a training activity which is carried out within a company under a contract: an internship placement agreement. Depending on their field of study, the trainee, in conjunction with EMC-Intercultural and the company, sets out an internship placement mission. The ‘company tutor’ and a coordinator from EMC-Intercultural follow the steps of the mission and carry out an evaluation of the trainee. EMC-Intercultural forwards the balance sheets of the tutoring and the evaluations to the student's home University.

Employability

The experiences offered in our programme will turn into added value to a student’s future career because:

  • It offers a more realistic view of the ‘world of work’ and of the professional field which the student is aiming to enter
  • It helps in defining their professional career path
  • It gives them the opportunity to evaluate and to have evaluated their skills as well as enhance their abilities
  • It develops their capacity for responsiveness and initiative within a professional environment
  • It assists them in acquiring intercultural communication skills and overcoming linguistic and cultural barriers
  • It helps them further develop their communicative competence in a foreign language and use the language properly in a professional context

The purpose of the EMC-Intercultural Internship Programme is to respond to the multiple and varied expectations of the student, combining interactive modes of immersion: professional, linguistic, cultural, and academic.

Student Profiles

  • Bachelor, Masters or PhD’s - EMC-I's programme has been designed for all post secondary levels of education
  • Industries - It doesn’t matter if the student is doing Bachelor of Arts or doing their PhD in Engineering or International Trade, the Internship ‘search and company placement’ process is based on the candidate's personal profile in accordance with the University’s requirements
  • Flexibility - Internships are like finger prints: they are unique; there are no two alike. The candidate is the creator of his/her own experience. The quality of the candidate's internship experience and the work accomplished depends solely on the candidate's personal input, flexibility and capacity to adapt to new and challenging situations
  • Initiative - The in-company Internship Mission will evolve based on the candidate's own initiative, the candidate's effort to research and to communicate with his/her colleagues, and his/her ability to integrate into the company and the Canadian business style
  • Language level - The type of work in the company is related to the candidate’s proficiency in English and his/her ability to communicate both at the beginning as well as during the Internship
